The Visceral feel and look of textured and patterned papers is an integral part of my work. Inspired by quilts made by Gees Bend artisans, I often incorporate geometric yet asymmetrical elements into my collage drawings. I am attracted to the buildings that I see around me, including both exterior windows and doors, as well as the objects and corners of interior spaces, and often use these as my subject matter. The drawings evolve slowly, built up layer by layer.  The imprecision of the cut and torn shapes allows under-layers to peer through, creating a depth and richness that I find satisfying.
